It was in October 2008 that I was  in bed and listening to RTE  1  and an interview with Jeremy Irons . I had been thinking for some time that Slí Eile needed a Patron, and hearing Jeremy speak that night I knew  Slí Eile  couldn’t do better ! But how to go about it ?

The following morning, I looked up his address in West Cork and wrote to him. I was delighted to receive a reply from his P/A by email informing me that Jeremy was out of the country but would be in Ireland the following July and would meet with me then.. The following June I wrote again, and again and  … I think again and maybe again,  until I received a phone call from him, inviting me to West Cork for a meeting in January 2010

The day of the long awaited meeting , disaster – we woke to 4” snow and solid ice on the roads in North Cork ! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah . With Gerry driving, we  decided to  set off anyway and allowed an extra couple of hours for the journey. Just as well I did not look to postpone the meeting because by the time we  made it through Cork city and on the road to West Cork, there was no trace of snow at all at all  and we arrived  in Skibereen with time to spare  so we sussed out the road to his castle and then went for a coffee whilst awaiting the appointed time.

This first meeting with Jeremy exceeded all my expectations, with Jeremy agreeing to act as Patron and to officially launch the Slí Eile Farm project in April 2010.
